🌿 Shingle Vine (Marcgravia rectiflora)

Create a lush, tropical backdrop with the exotic and eye-catching Shingle Vine, a prized climbing plant from the humid rainforests of Central and South America. Known for its flat, overlapping leaves that "shingle" tightly against vertical surfaces, this epiphytic vine clings beautifully to backgrounds, cork bark, and hardscape. A favorite in high-humidity terrariums and bioactive setups, Marcgravia rectiflora is both a visual showstopper and a functional plant for animals needing coverage and microclimates.

🌱 Care Instructions:

Light:
Thrives in medium to bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh, direct sun. Low light will slow growth but won’t harm the plant.

Water:
Likes consistent moisture. Keep substrate damp but not waterlogged. Mist regularly or use a fogger to maintain ambient humidity.

Temperature & Humidity:
Ideal temperature range is 70–85°F. Requires high humidity (70%+); perfect for dart frog enclosures, gecko tanks, or tropical vivariums.

Soil:
Use a well-aerated, moisture-retaining tropical mix. Orchid bark, coco fiber, and sphagnum moss create an ideal substrate for rooting.

Growth Habit:
Shingle Vine is a slow to moderate grower that climbs using aerial roots. It naturally flattens its leaves against vertical surfaces, creating a “living wall” effect.
