Moonlight Mantids Genealogy

At Moonlight Mantids, we carefully track and trace all bloodlines, ensuring every female, every ootheca (egg case), and every hatch is fully documented. This not only preserves healthy, diverse genetics but also makes these bloodlines transparent and accessible to our customers and future breeders. With this level of record-keeping, you can always feel confident knowing the exact background of your mantis and even continue the line in your own projects.

To make this possible, we use a detailed batch numbering system that keeps track of each mantis’s family history. Each female is assigned a unique three-digit number, every ootheca she produces is given a two-digit number showing the order it was laid, and a final number records how many nymphs hatched. For example, 001-01-100 would mean female number one, her first ooth, and a hatch of 100 nymphs. Along with this numbering, we also record notes such as the parents’ color morphs, gestation length, and incubation time. Over time, these records build a family tree that shows which traits carry on through generations, helps us spot unique morphs, and keeps our breeding projects organized.
